Question

Help answer this question below.

In the KJV of the bible, the 6th of the 10 commandments is listed as 'Thou shalt not kill'. It is my understanding that this is a mistranslation, and that the original text uses 'murder' instead of 'kill'. Is this so? How is it in the Jewish text?

It says THOU SHALL NOT MURDER.
Killing and Murder are 2 different things.
For example. - You are at home sleeping you and your family...a stranger breaks in and is threatening your daughters life. You kill him in self defense, that is KILLING...It is not a murder cuz it was not an innocent person...it was a threat TO the innocent people. It was for the better Good. Now flip it around and say THAT stranger who broke in shot and killed your wife...and you. That would be murder. Its just an unneeded murder done for really no reason except for their own selfish needs. Taking a life that has done nothing wrong is murder.

Because God gave man enough wisdom to setup a hierarchy to follow relative to the government. Since the government decided that we should be there, then we go.

However, if you want to stick this strictly to people, then ask your same question to the 3,000+ people that died in NY; we didn't start this conflict and we sure as hell aren't going to let them walk all over us. If it requires that troops be there to prevent another 3,000+ people from dying, then so be it.

I think the better question to ask is, why don't the people, in the countries where our troops are located, stand up and take down the radical terrorists that caused our troops to be there in the first place? Evil prevails when good people do nothing. If those people would stand up and handle the problem that they allow to exist, we wouldn't need to be there.

Older translations of the bible have "Thou shalt not kill", whereas newer versions tend to "You shall not murder". There is controversy as to which translation is more faithful, and both forms are quoted in support of ethical standpoints.

The many examples in the Old Testament of killing sanctioned by God, are quoted in defence of the view that "murder" is more accurate. Furthermore, the Hebrew word for "kill" is "???" - "harog", while the Hebrew word for "murder" is "???" - "retzach", which is found in the Ten Commandments "?? ????" - "lo tirtzach". The supporters of "kill" point to the long tradition of this translation and to their understanding of the Hebrew.

See Exodus 20:12 in the Hebrew Bible:
"Thou shalt not murder. Thou shalt not commit adultery. Thou shalt not steal. Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour."

That is true,if taken literally. There was no clauses or other circumstances saying there is exceptions to the rule of thou shall not kill.If that were the case the first rule would be invalid and useless. If there was exceptions based on convenience of thought then it becomes hypocrisy.Even in spiritual philosophy, not religious, killing is wrong.
