    The equation is that of Q tanh (x t / 2)

    tanh is the hypobolic tangent, pronounced "than".

    It could be calculating many things ... the presence of 't' in there tho makes me think it could be representing the equation for the speed of a falling body in the presence of quadratic drag. Q is the terminal velocity.
