  • They better freakin not! I want my bills and junk mail!
  • They can, but it's only applicible if they don't care about they're job. Acctually if it's deemed bad enough conditions, like -30 degrees f, you can be charged with attempted suicide. Then I assume they don't have to.
  • Don't they have that postal oath or whatever that says "nor wind or hail" or something about the weather and how bad weather won't keep them from delivering the mail?
  • Personally, if they brought my mail on just Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I would be happy. They could save salaries and fuel by only coming every other day. This would help them stay warm on the day in between deliveries.
  • I was actually called by my local post office to come pick up my own packages during a snowstorm shortly before Christmas!
  • The postman's creed Neither rain nor snow, nor sleet nor dark of night shall stay these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds It doesn't say anything about cold, but I would assume that they'd still be expected to deliver.
  • Simply being cold is not enough to keep them from delivering mail. Letter carriers are used to delivering mail in inclimate weather. However, if it is unsafe to deliver - heavy snow, ice, flooding, etc. management will curtail delivery. If a carrier refuses to deliver in cold weather, he will be disciplined for failing to follow orders and perform their job.
  • Cold weather shouldn't stop your deliver but deep snow could delay your mail. The rule is to keep your box clear of snow so the vehicle or carrier can access your box without problems. With the DOT clearing the roads the snow drifts in front of the boxes can be 20 feet of deep snow between the road and the mailbox. The vehicle can't get to your box without either getting stuck or without stepping out of their vehicle. Many parcels for Christmas were delayed because the trucks can't get up driveways or streets even with chains or 4 wheel drive.
  • Sure, if they're tired of working for the Postal Service.
  • Good question. + 3 points. Well mate, I have lived in Australia all my life and alot of the postman here travel on motorcycles delivering to each home and business and I have seen my mail arrive safely in even heavy rain, heavy hail, strong gusty wind, even during a heatwave of over 30+ degrees. Australia Post really do have their work cut out for them, but you can trust them alright to get your mail through. Thats why Australians are a bit of a proud, helpful bunch.
