    It's not just different between road and mountain bikes. There are many 'standards' ranging from 110mm to 160mm. The common MTB with 7/8/9 rear gears will usually have a 135mm spacing with or without disk brakes. A common road bike with 8/9/10 rear gears will usually have a 130mm spacing.
