Outside your window where you can watch them.

Place it so it is not in the sun all day long. The food won't go over so fast. Also, get an "ant cup" for it. The ant cup fits between the feeder and the hook the feeder hangs from. Fill the ant cup with water, and keep it filled. The ants won't be biting the hummers and getting into the food and ruining it. Also, put the feeder in a place where hummers can sit and be close to it, rest, and get back to it without burning as much energy. And PLEASE don't use that nasty red colored stuff you buy in stores. Make your own food and keep it in the fridge. It is one cup water to 1/4 cup sugar. Boil. Cool. Feed birds. No dye. They do not need dye to find the food. thanks!

Hang it someplace outside a window where you can watch them, but high enough that the cat can't reach. That used to drive my cats nuts, because they could sit inside the window and watch too, but they couldn't get at the birds. :)

Front porches are good places. Up high away from cats. If you put one where you frequent, like a front porch they will get used to you and you can put your finger on the feeder and they will sit there and eat while sitting on your finger. I have done this a lot of times. :)
