godaddy.com or for free, there is .tk sites

Yea, I use godaddy, great service IMO, only 10$ a year! There used to be a site that gave free .com and .net domains with ads on them, but it doesn't exist anymore. If your site needs to look even a little bit professional, get a real domain at godaddy.

Don't trust very cheap or free sites (less than $5 per domain per year), as you'll end up paying much more than the domain's basic cost in the end, one way or another. You could even lose your domain name by using very cheap/free registrars, especially if its a good name. It is very important to make sure that YOU are going to be the registrant for the doimain - i.e., the admin contact must be you and the email address must be your email address and non-one else's as this is the only way you can access and control your domain name. Some registars have contract terms that allow them to place their email address as the admin contact, which could mean that you'll never get control of it, even though you've paid for it and you treat it as your own. This is an old trick that still catches people out today. Make sure any registrar you are considering is ICANN registered and READ their Terms & Conditions BEFORE signing up. Look up or join forums such as; http://www.webmasterworld.com/domain_names/ where you can learn who gives the best service, to real people, not marketing hype. I use Godaddy.com too and although they are not the cheapest, you are a lot safer with them than a lot of the trash out there. Is it worth it for the extra $3-4 a year - you decide?
