  • well I put an ad in the local trading post to stud my dog I always asked 175.00 plus pick of 1 in the litter
  • I'll assume you mean that you want to find a Registered Male (called a Dog) for your Registered Female (called a Bitch), based upon your other question on breeding. The first thing to consider is WHY do you want to breed? Regardless if you own the Bitch or the Dog, you ask yourself WHAT OUTSTANDING QUALITIES does my animal have to pass on. What is it about your Dog or Bitch that will IMPROVE the Breed of the type of animal you wish to breed? ( the St. Bernard in this case). While each of us who owns a dog of any type, pure or mixed or crossbred probably believes that their dog or bitch is THE BEST in the world, strong, bold, sweet, smart, beautiful...doubtless the list goes on and on...If you are choosing to become a breeder of dogs (cats, horses, cows) you need to be clear on what you truly have to offer. If you are doing it because you think "Fluffy" would be a great mom, is a great girl, or boy, OR because you figure you paid $300 Or MORE for this animal, so why shouldn't YOU breed and make some money too....well..sorry...these are the wrong REASONS to embark on a breeding adventure. Harsh as it sounds...These are the reasons that give small time BACKYARD BREEDERS A VERY BAD NAME. Responsible Breeders realize that they MUST SHOW their dogs...the Bitch and or Dog to be used for the breeding program, to earn points and titles that PROVE that this dog or bitch has the qualities that WILL IMPROVE THE BREED OVER ALL. They aren't just interested in mixing any old two animals together like a miniature puppy mill with the only goal being MAKE MORE PUPPIES, MAKE MONEY. THIS is why you show your dog/bitch, to earn the points and give weight to YOUR CLAIM that YOUR animal is one of the best or THE BEST. As specifically to YOUR question here, showing your Bitch and winning her titles (if she can) will mean that DOG OWNERS will be ATTRACTED to the idea of breeding their Dog to your Bitch. Breeding animals is not about scoring a day with a "happy ending" for your animal...it's about bringing two animals together that, if you have success in the breeding WILL create a better St. Bernard! You want to be aware of what qualities your Bitch is NOT as perfect as you wish, so that you choose a Male that is STRONGER in those "weak" qualities, you want to look at the Females in HIS BLOODLINE. If your Bitch is a bit narrow in the shoulders, or hips...you look for a Dog where the bitches in his line have slightly wider shoulders or hips...breeding is an opportunity to CORRECT minor flaws...for both YOU and the owner of the Dog. If you attract a titled Dog, the price may or may not include PICK OF THE LITTER. Often the owner of the Dog will accept Pick of the Litter, IF your bitch is a fairly outstanding winner in the show ring, they might take Pick for all of the breeding fee, or give you a heavy discount on the cost of breeding. Most Dog owners generally will agree that there must be a live birth, not all do (they do with horses, not always with dogs) ASK...what if the breeding doesn't take, or what if your bitch rejects the dog? (They may have sperm from the dog that your Vet could inseminate for you). To find a good Dog, start going to shows, start researching breeders, researching bloodlines. Be sure you've got your certification on your Bitch's hips, and any other types of vetted certifications this breed should have. Be sure you get a look at the same certifications on the Dog you are interested in breeding her to. Reputable Breeders are proud and thrilled to trot out their bloodlines, titles, certifications for health and recite WHO'S WHO in their dog or bitch's family history. Anyone who is disinclined to share this sort of information with you...is bogus...RUN THE OTHER WAY! If this seems like a lot of work to you, IT IS. It also is not naturally a big money maker. Most really reputable breeders will tell you, producing an as good or BETTER quality dog is expensive in both money, their personal time and energy. They do this because they truly believe that they not only love the breed, but that they can improve it! If you are simply wanting to have puppies, or think you'll make a profit...I can't beg you enough to STOP NOW. Visit your local pound, call and speak to some St. Bernard Rescue groups...find out not only how many wonderful dogs, puppies, young adults and older dogs WILL BE put to sleep TODAY...it can include this gentle Giant as well, since many people decide they can't afford to feed them and so dump them too off at the local pound. Please DO NOT ADD to the surplus (what a sickening word...surplus!) Dog population of great pet quality dogs, that will be dead every single day of the week, because no body adopted them by last day. If improving the breed is YOUR goal, get out to the shows, learn the ropes, READ LOTS about this breed, learn about the bloodlines that are available and what makes THEM so special, talk to breeders, LEARN MORE and then cross your fingers and start showing your dogs!
  • i have a saint bernard stud dog proven if you would like to know more y can ring me on 07960074013
  • I would sugguest the first thing to do is contact the breeder who bred your bitch, if she is a reputable KC registered breeder, she will certainly know of other breeders to introduce you to, or she may have a 2nd stud un-related. Also she will advise you if your bitch is worthy of breeding from! If you bought her as a pet, you must find this out first, also do you have full KC registration papers and are they endorsed or not, all this needs to be addressed before you even consider mating your bitch. I would also suggest you contact the Kennel Club for help and advice, find them through ANY search engine! Regards Sylvia www.fluffypoms.me.uk (POMERANIAN KC BREEDER)
