No, but you NEVER think of yourself, thats the problem. You need to find a balance there. Take care of yourself for once. Put yourself first!! You are spreading yourself too thin and it is not good for you. Good luck! GET WELL!!!! :o)

I don't think anyone would say it's a bad thing to put others first, however there comes a time when you need to focus on yourself. I'm going to make a big assumption here based on my experience so I apologise if I'm off the mark. Are you putting others first because it's easier than tackling your own problems? If so, I can promise you that the thoughts you're having will not go away, long-term. You need to tackle your own issues then you will be better able to help others.

They told you that because when you are in the hospital, it is the time to focus on yourself - that is, learning to take care of yourself, asking for what you need, thinking about your issues and getting better. If you spend your time taking care of your peers, it doesn't leave time for you. It's fine to interact with peers and share, etc., that is part of your treatment and it's very valuable. But, it's not selfish to put yourself first in your situation. Hope this helps.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to help others-- in fact it's encouraged. But, there's a time when you have to be rejuvenated, and this is the time for you right now. Taking time for yourself is not selfish when you are spent, or physically and spiritually exhausted. You want to be refreshed so you can reach out to others in the most positive and productive way. It is better to give than to receive. Thank God for people like you.
