Some people, after making a definitive statement, put a word called "Period." after the definitive sentence. Why do you think they do so?

Many do not understand a point final with saying PERIOD!

For emphasis. To signify end of discussion.

It means they don't expect/want you to respond to the statement and to end the conversation right there. Or it could be used as an alternative to an exclamation, like saying Period instead of shouting out.

To emphasize that there is nothing more to their point than what they just said.
