We used to use them every winter when we'd visit the mountains back in California, but since moving to New York 4-5 years ago, we never use them. We have great tires and AWD instead.

I never have. If it gets bad enough to use chains, then it's too dangerous to drive.

About three years ago. It snowed about 14 inches or more and I had an early morning appointment. The plows do our side streets last, usually very late afternoon. I needed chains to get out onto the plowed streets. (Like for two blocks)
