  • Try it on another television, if the same problem arises then the sound wire is damaged.
  • 1. Make sure the Cable is properly connected to the back of the Xbox. 2. Make sure the Cble is properly connected to the inputs on the TV (Color coded if using component or composite cables). 3. Look on the large part of the cable where it plugs into the Xbox. There is a switch with two settings: HDTV and TV. If using the component cables (Green, Blue, Red + White Red), turn the switch to HDTV. If using the composite cables (Yellow, White, Red), switch it to TV. 4. If the problem persists, contact Microsoft at 800 4MY - XBOX . It's a toll free number but it isn't 24 hour.
  • I am having the same problem. Just sound.... Before it happen the picture show color distortions (red, green).... If someone had a solution please post !!!
  • There seems to be a large number of consoles now suffering this problem. Initially there can be either a fuzzy picture, or a loss of colours. This is usually followed by the total loss of picture - black screen, although the sound still functions. It is believed to be a component failure.
  • I had the same problem with my 360 i turned it on and off about 50 times, left it alone for a day when i got home from work i just turned it on and left it running til the morning turned it off and turned it back on and i got a picture and that was 3 days ago and i have had no problems since
  • Make sure that you have the cord put on the right TV HD or regular. This happened to me. Check onthe part the hooks into the Xbox. You switch it back and forth
  • Ya, I haven't heard of this problem before but if you follow what nfntjy said, you should be well on your way to gamming soon.
  • same here , sound but no picture, i called microsoft and they pict it up the next day, still waiting to know if its guarantee or not
  • my xbox got that problem too! i thought it was the AV cable so i gave it to my friend who also has an xbox and he said it wirked with his, so im guessing its a problem with my 360! so now, i have to send it to them a second time after only having it for 1 week!
  • Is it hooked up right??
  • try switching t.v's and if that dont work make sure all your cables are plugged in properly and your light is green not red ororange
  • 1. Check the switch on the AV cable (tv/hdtv). 2. Swap out your AV cable if you have another one laying around. 3. Try a different input on your TV. Those are the obvious solutions. I had the same problem, and after eliminating the three above solutions I went to the Llama for help (http://www.llamma.com/xbox360/repair/ring_of_light_x-clamp_fix.htm). Let me be clear, I had no red lights on my Xbox. I had sound, but no picture. After performing the xclamp fix my xbox 360 is working perfectly. I also installed a whisper fan (purchased from Llama) which I think is louder than the OEM. Good luck.
  • you need the xclamp fix you can get it on ebay or send to microsoft its the gpu its not connecting to the motherboard right after a while you get white dots on screen but the sound is ok i took mine apart and put pressure on the gpu for 20 seconds mine works fine now {always keep the 360 lay on its side} ive also ordered the xclamp fix and i am going to do it myself this is a very common fault
  • A few days ago, I was playing Star Wars: The Force Unleashed and my character turned green. It was so weird, there were green and purple shapes everywhere and it ruined the whole expeirence of the game. I thought quickly and decided to turn my xbox off. 30 minutes later I turned back on. There was absolutly no picture! Can someone help me with my problem and maybe give me some suggestions?
  • I opened my xbox and I put presure on the heat sink and now I got picture.
  • this is the first time my xbox360 went wacho and the same thing happened to me the color went and the just blackness but i can still here does anyone know how to fix it because i dont have a clue i took it appart and everything is ok inside ,do i need to get a new one or what.
  • i had the same problem a couple of months ago so i sent it to microsoft and had it fixed. It was fine for a couple of months but now there is no picture or sound!!!!!!! can anyone help plz??
  • May have a solution. Please pardon the bad english:-) I had this problem too. The problem is that the thermal paste between the gpu and heat sink has hardened. What i did was very simple and might seem dumb but it worked. My warrenty had expired anyway. Wrap towels around the xbox making sure you cover the fans up. after a while (in my case 20 mins.) you will get the dreaded red ring of death or doom or destruction... and you will hear the fans switch off. This to me was quite scary. I turned the xbox off and waited. After half an hour a powered the thing back up and presto! No red ring and the picture was back. You actually need to make it red-ring in order to fix it...
  • do not use the towel round the xbox trick it only fixes your xbox for a short while (5 mins) and causes further damage to your xbox personally you should if your warenty has expired send your xbox off to a repair shop depending on which repair shop they normally fix this problem between £35-£60 and only takes a few days but if your xbox warenty is still in date send your xbox off to microsoft to get it fixed for free
  • I have the same problem my xbox has just run out of warranty and i now have an xbox with no video but sound. I called xbox they asked me to do a few checks and after that failed they said you will need to send it to us, the price for repair is £80 if done by phone or online price £68 nearly the price of a core machine. Anyone please help
  • Try the wires on the smae TV, if that doesnt work, try a diffrent Tv.
  • yeah my xbox is doing the same thing. ive had 3 different xbox 360's since they came out. come on microsoft, put some sort of effort in, your measly attempt at making a console has been crushed by sony again. stop trying, the xbox 360 WAS cool for a about a month or 2, or until it broke, which ever came first. so fuck you and the millions of dollars you robbed from people. im on my way to get a ps3.
  • Here's the solution that worked for me and it cost the price of heat sink compound. My Xbox 360 began to display weird colors and after a few times of rebooting, the video went out and no red lights, yet it had sound. My warranty was expired so I cracked the box open(which I've done before) and took off the clamps that kept the heatsinks on, cleaned all the old heatsink compound off of BOTH the GPU and the CPU, and then used regular screws to bolt down the heat sinks. This gave me the 3 red lights. I took the screws out and put it back to square one with all original clamps and viola! I had video.. it flickered weird for a minute and then corrected itself and stopped. So, my thoughts are that I had to get the Xbox to error out (it didnt know there was no video) and by cleaning the heat sink compound thoroughly and applying new, we had the right heat disipation and it snapped back. This worked for me, so, give it a try.. its way cheaper than the xclamp stuff.
