It could be minimized. Does your keyboard have a Windows key (a key with a Windows logo on it)? Hit that. If not, try holding down Ctrl and hit Esc.

Do you have the taskbar? Sounds like maybe explorer.exe crashed. press ctrl+alt+del, and open task manager. Applications tab at the bottom "new task" type explorer.exe. That'll fix er all up.

get your mouse poiner on the plase of task bar you may see there task bar then click there write and then click on properties and unmark the option(hide the task bar) and enjoy your start button forever

Perhaps the start button and associated bar have been moved to another side or top of the screen. Move your mouse as far to the top as it will go and see if the bar appears. Do the same at the right and left sides of the screen. If you find it at any of the three locations, right click and drag it to the bottom of the screen and release the mouse button.
