  • You would need to ask an attorney but it is my understanding that annulments are rarely done any more. My guess is an uncontested divorce is more likely.
  • I agree with rockfan. Check your local law. Details vary, but basically anullments are granted when the couple can demonstrate that their marriage was never valid or authentic in the first place. For years, Catholics used anullment laws as an excuse for dissolving a marriage without getting a divorce which the church forbids. It amounted to the same thing, but was a legal loophole. For many years anullment laws were on the books to accomodate the large Catholic population. As the influence of the church fades, more people just go ahead and divorce. Some states have changed their laws and others haven't. Ask an attorney or check your local law library.

  • You don't need a lawyer to get a divorce. Just go to your closest family court.
  • Too late for an annulment if you two had sex. Divorce is your only option.
