  • No, softbills and hookbills are not suited to be put in with doevs. They will overpower the smaller bird and kill it. I have had good luck putting budgies (parakeets) in with these birds. It does not matter tht thye are not mated and all females won't make a difference. If, however, later you wanted to mate your birds-getting a breeding cage for your pair would be best. Note which birds are pairing at least two weeks before separating them though. Hope this helps and good luck.
  • Through experience, I have found that ringneck doves and finches are not suitable to house together. My dove would find the zebra finches quite irritating and when I first bought them, if they flew too close to the dove, she would pick them up behind the neck and drop them off the perch (didn't injure them, but probably gave them a fright). I have also heard that when doves fly, especially if they have been frightened, they don't care who's in the way. They could fly right into a finch and injure it, especially in a smaller aviary. I have put cockatiels together with my dove and had no problems (they were all a bit uncomfortable with it the first few days, but they are fine now). Same goes with my chinese painted quail, one of my quail even use to sit next to the dove and they would preen each other.
