I think you just have a guy who isn't trained yet. This is quite common when men are young, they don't understand how to relate to a woman's romantic expectations. Men and women are different, and both sexes take a while to learn that. So you're his teacher on this topic. Don't be shy about handing out the lessons, but do understand that it takes time. If he's worth keeping, he'll eventually learn. If he's not, you'll discover that soon enough.

NOOOOOOOOOOO. Why can't stupid men get it through their thick heads that we girls like this day????? So many of them have no clue how far a little romance will go. I would suggest you talking to him about it at some point....not when you are mad or hurt....and make sure he understands that Valentines Day is a special day that you would like to honor in the future....that way, he will have not excuses.....here is a flower from me....just a friendship flower, sweetie, nothing weird....

Then go read a book. It's just a stupid day.

I think your guy may be a dud, on the other hand - he may just need some coaching on what you need. Next time take the lead with something you want to do and tell him this is going to be just your day. If he is not willing to play along - then it might be time to realize that this won't work out.

You said he gave you a card, he thought of you enough to do that, I think women put to many expectations on Valentines day. What did you do for him? What did you buy him? What plans did you make? This is a day to celebrate love, not to see what the man does for you. It goes both ways. Next year, you plan the whole day.
