Is really excessive shopping( such a buying things you will NEVER use or more of the same things you already have) a mental disorder? Or is being a shop-a-holic just a bad habit?

I say mental. I once got a call to a nice home where a little old lady lived with her little old dog, every inch of the house was filled with high end brand new items, some in duplicate like stove, refrigerators, washer 7 dryer sets-still cartoned.
