Why dont builders plan more houses for physically disabled persons as we have lots of money

    You are right about universal access. My house is an older type an have made changes to it.
    EG:hand rails,door locks also adapted some funiture to my requirements,not that I have much of that.
    Norms dont have much of an idea on whats required by some.

    I doubt that many builders would find it economically attractive to build fully accessible houses on spec, as they would be be assured of a good return. However, if you contract with a developer before your house is built, they are happy to take your money and make it accessible.

    Another problem is that many builders don't know much about accessible design, besides the most basic aspects of ramps, grab bars, and doorknobs. Unless you are really well prepared, you need to work with a contractor or architect who REALLY understands about accessibility.

    In any case, it is really important to think deeply about you need and pay attention. For example, any builder can build a legal ramp, but only you know how big the landing really has to be for you to get up the ramp and open the door easily if you are in a chair, and the kind of door and hardware that will make it easy for you.

    That said, I wish that universal access was common in new houses.
