  • We'll probably never know, they were probably killed as soon as they expressed their feelings about god. Though the first outspoken Atheist that lived long enough was Diagoras of Melos from 5th century BC in Rome or Greece or something.
  • The earliest known atheist that I can find is Maharishi Kapila, who apparently lived sometime before 200 AD in India: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samkhya Otherwise I'd say it was the first hominid.
  • Who knows? There have likely been atheists for as long as there have been humans. For every man or woman who believed in He-Who-Brings-The-Meat-To-Us or She-Who-Makes-The-Fruit-To-Grow, there had to have been one or more who didn't see it that way at all. As far as ancient atheism goes though, there was a movement that actually began in the Hindu religion that could be classified as atheistic. That was around the 6th century BCE.
  • If you believe as I do that man invented God, then atheists predate written history--and theists. Religions and gods also predate written history so we cannot answer who was the first theist. You may disagree and argue that your particular creationist story is the "True"(tm) story and that it documents the first theist(s). Since you have no evidence for whatever creationist story you believe, I'll not care to agree with you. We are all born atheist and most of us are converted by our parents to a belief system.
  • well i guess all people were atheists until some a-hole started making up stuff about who "created" them. In other words, some dumb ass caveman ( even though very creative) started making up a bunch of crap, and later others believed it as the truth.
  • Probably the first humans. However one of the early writings which have a distinctive atheistic tone is by Plato, "The Republic", in which the character Adeimantus discusses goodness in the light of "what if the gods don't exist, or what if they exist but care nothing of human affairs".
  • The first believer's spouse. (or more likely: children)
  • The first Homosapian was born an atheist. Some time after that, deism and theism came to be.
  • God, of course. HE certainly does not believe in a power higher than him...
  • you would have to go the babylonian era you might find one of the 1st famous atheist in those days.
  • Ask god if there are any gods. "Who me? Do I think there is a god? Get outta here.. No wait.. go to hell. LOL"
  • GOD.....
  • The one who figured out that it was the priests who were living high on the hog when it came to religious donations.
