  • Foundation novels by Isaac Asimov. You will thank me.
  • Terry Pratchett! Read Terry Pratchett books! He writes satire/fantasy/AWESOME (my favorite genre). I guarantee you'll love it.
  • I hadn't realised how many series I have read! These are the ones I have loved throughout my life, although obviously some are for younger people: Fantasy: * The Lord of the Rings (I don't consider this a series, but some people do) * Lloyd Alexander's 'The Chronicles of Prydain' and Westmark Trilogy * The Fool's Gold series by Jude Fisher (aka Jane Johnson. I thought it was a trilogy, but the third book does not have a satisfactory conclusion. I understand the series is intended to continue although I'm not sure when the next book will come out.) * Lynn Flewelling's Nightrunner series and Tamir Triad * The Bitterbynde Trilogy by Cecelia Dart-Thornton (although her style can be very irritating) Fantastic/mystical elements: * Harry Potter series * The Chronicles of Narnia * His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman (much better than the crappy Golden Compass movie) * The Dark Is Rising by Susan Cooper (much better than the crappy movie) * Alex Cold series by Isabel Allende * Journey to the West (by WU Cheng'en. Aka 'Monkey', 'Monkey Magic') * Odd Thomas series by Dean Koontz Other: * The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency series Schoolgirl series: * What Katy Did series by Susan Coolidge * The Chalet School series by Elinor Brent-Dyer Kids' series (which I still enjoy): * A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket * Uncle series by J.P. Martin Comics: * Tintin (Herge) * Asterix (Goscinny/Uderzo) * Ompa-Pa (Goscinny/Uderzo) * Iznogoud the Infamous (Goscinny/Tabary)

  • The Bad Girls series by Cynthia Voight. Supposedly for kids-but extremely well-written and engaging.
  • You may be too old for these, but the "House of Night" series by P.C. & Kristin Cast. I read the first 3 in 9 days (but could have finished sooner if it wasn't for school and work)!
