  • You'd probably have to check with your state Attorney General's office to see about that. Was there any paperwork involved? Was this from the store's attorney?
  • Interesting. I have a few questions. If you paid the bill and no charges were filed than I don't understand the problem. Did you hire an attorney yourself after you were caught? If you did and owe legal fees then you owe them. Technically they could take you to court to get their fees back (more than likely you would set up a payment plan). However, if there was no police report filed or none of that, you are not going to jail or anything.

  • Probably just a fine. If you steel, you generally have to pay the price of the item and a fine for breaking a law. Don`t steel and you won`t have to deal with expensive consequences.
  • I was caught shoplifting when I was 15, they arrested me booked me and send me home. I moved around so I missed the paperwork, didn't go to court until I was 18, I paid $50 fine, and though I was done, later I got a letter saying that I owed like $300. It was what K-mart asked for plus attorney fees because I once again didn't get the letter at first and didn't respond. I called them, explanation was, that the first fine was criminal court, the second one was civil court, they said I have to pay it or there is a chance that they'll take me to court and I'll have to pay for court fees etc... I never paid it, and never heard from them again. But you never got arrested, so how do they even have all your info etc... that part doesn't make sense.
