Excellent question. It is so tempting because it is so easy to figure your taxes. But implementing it would destroy America as we know it. The flat tax is the most regressive possible tax and causes wealth to very rapidly flow from the poor and middle class to a tiny handful of incredibly wealthy families that end up owning everything. Fair tax is only used in two types of countries today. Banana republics, where the wealthy families it benefits own the government and keep the system rigged so nobody ever challenges their wealth; and heavily socialist states where almost everyone is poor and the the government seeks to use tax revenues to lift the poor up through giveaways. impoverished
