It used to be. I've bought 5 Maxtor HDs in the last 3 years or so. Love 'em. nice and quiet, and reliable. Another company bought them out a few months ago. EDIT: Seagate bought out Maxtor.

Well they still are ok hard drives. They don't have many disadvantages and they aren't too expensive. I would say you should get it if you like affordable good quality hard drives.

I have seen more 1 - 2 year old Maxtor hard drives fail in the last three weeks than I have any other brand ever. I work for a comptuer repair shop, and the majority of hard drive failures we see are Maxtors. Maybe it's because there is a higher volume of them out there as this is Dell's drive du jour, but I find them to be unreliable and poorly made.

i find that they work well. i'm using 3 w/ raid right not and having no issues.
