  • We already are able. Ocean water can easily be purified for drinking. It is already being used to hydroelectric power, and it's an invaluable natural resource for the fishing industry. The problem with purification, is that it's expensive. There are other countless minerals that are more abundant suspended in the water than on land. However, the cost of getting the minerals out is more than their worth.
  • There are a couple local men that invented a portable trailer mounted water filtration system that when taken to a body of saltwater, it pumps the water in, filters it, and pumps it into a drinking water containment container. These men won an awward as the invention was for a contest with a million dollar prize.
  • We are already, both for drinking and irrigation after de-salination as well as for power generation using ocean swells and tides.
