Why is it, everyone is so friendly in the BDSM category but they frown upon the idea of cutting? It's acceptable if my partner hurts me, but not acceptable if I hurt me? What if I do both for the same reasons? I enjoy pain.

It might be because of blood being drawn, but if its what you like and you do it safely, then go for it.

Cutting is generally associated with unbalanced teens. In most cases that person needs help of some sort, the cutting is not for pleasure, it's a release for something they cannot find an outlet for. The intentional drawing of blood is rarely part of BDSM. People will generally have a hard time with that, too.

My understanding of cutting is that its practitioners become psychologically addicted to it. Becoming addicted to ANY form of self-harm (smoking, drinking, cutting, whatever) is not a good idea. That is probably why there is more social sanction against it than with BDSM.
