If the stock was listed as an asset on the balance sheet when the agreement took place then the stock is transfered to the other company alongside all other assets in the agreement.
It goes up or down at first then the merger goes thru with a certain amt of shrs being reissued for the stock in the opposite comp. name or the reverse depending on who eats whom.
