Yes, we get pack rats here and they like to nest on top of the engine. Several baby pack rats got baked on top of the Ford V8 a few years ago. Momma rat also disabled the engine by chewing wiring for nesting material.

Having been a long haul trucker for many years, I learned early on that it is good to keep lots of emergency food, blankets, water, etc, on hand in case you get stranded in cold weather or if you break down in a remote area. Sometimes you get to a construction site (mainly flatbeds) out in the middle of no where on Friday night, there may not be anyone around until Monday morning. So you settle in, get comfortable,,,hopefully you can get a channel or two on the TV, and you use the engine manifold as an oven. Yes, I have done that a lot of times. Cans of beans, chili, vegetables, and if you use tin foil, you can even cook a chicken, steak, or even baked potato on the manifold.

I cooked an egg on top of it once to prove a point. My point was that Texas is actually not a class M planet for most of the summer months.
