Yes, yes, I knw what vanilla sex refers to.
But in defense of Vanila Ice Cream:
Vanilla is a very subtle flavor with many interesting, if elusive overtones. No one should ever think of vanilla ice cream as "plain" or "boring."
Vanilla doesn't come right out and ht you over the head with an on-rush of flavor, like chocolate, for instance. One must think while savoring the flavors of vanilla.
Vanilla sex is a term that refers to what a society regards as standard or conventional sexual behaviour. Different cultures, subcultures, and individuals have different ideas about what constitutes vanilla sex. Often it is interpreted as sex that does not involve such elements as BDSM, kink, or fetish activities.
Among heterosexual couples in the Western world, vanilla sex often refers to the missionary position.
The term "vanilla" derives from the use of vanilla extract as the basic or most popular flavouring for ice cream, and by extension meaning "plain" or "conventional". Thus, the term "vanilla" is sometimes used as an insult to describe someone who is overly conventional or unwilling to take risks, in both sexual and non-sexual contexts. (The term is not wholly accurate, however, as the concept of vanilla - in ice cream and other foods - can be very flavorful and interesting, and is rarely as bland as the stereotype would indicate.)
Neapolitan is a term proposed to describe the sex life of a person that enjoys "vanilla sex" as well as other "flavours" of sex, such as BDSM. This is presumably coined in reference to Neapolitan ice cream, which has layers of different colours, including a layer of vanilla flavour, rather than being a reference to the inhabitants of Naples.
“Vanilla sex” may also be intended by the user to indicate "Caucasian" in the stereotypical but unfounded belief that such cultures are less sexually adventurous and promiscuous than others. Generally speaking, there is a much broader variance of sexual behavior within individual cultures than between them, and no such stereotype holds up under scrutiny.
Given that the word 'Vanilla' is an etymological cognate to the word "Vagina", the term could also be used to refer to vaginal intercourse.

Edit - Well, it does say "stereotypical" and might be the view of some people. :-)
It means plain and boring.
Vanilla is a term used to describe sexual acts that are not considered kinky or wild. In other words- your basic, run of the mill sex.
It is a reference to ice cream. When you don't want anything fancy or different- you just get vanilla. However, you don't use other flavors to describe the wilder sex.... you would never say you like strawberry or chocolate... for obvious reasons.
The term Vanilla Sex is generally used to desribe 'ordinary every day sex'. Playing off of vanilla being the most common flavor and generally being considered quite bland. (Of course Vanilla is also still the most popular flavor in production >:) )
It can also be used to describe your proclivities or likes with regard to sexual practices. If you and your partner are into 'normal' sex without any bells and whistles (basic positions, basic activities) then you would be referred to as Vanilla.
i honestly have never heard of this, but boy do i learn new thing s here everyday.

I completely agree - I think Vanilla is essential to any meal, it's like trying to make an omlet without any eggs.
