  • I count my calories when i diet... (who! 7 words in that sentence)
  • Sometimes I count how many letters are on a freeway sign. How many letters are in someones name. How many trucks are around me on the freeway. How many ways you can twist the clock numbers to make other numbers, adding all the clock number and realize the number is __ and wonder do any other numbers on the clock add up to __ and then start looking for other ways to get the numbers. Am I odd? probally.
  • i dont count how many numbers in a word, but how many numbers in a group i do :D
  • This is a real issue...maybe not an issue but a blessing! It has been proven to actually be a talent. Most people that count this way are very smart! Look into it more. I have done it since I was young and never mentioned it until I was about 10. My Mom thought I was weird but was nice about it and after that I thought I was crazy! I could never find anyone to relate...but I didn't try to hard. It was embarassing to me. Sure enough my 9 year old daughter asked me why she counted everything out of the blue! It is genetic! It is a type of OCD but they have found people with particular genius that have this OCD! Very interesting!
  • Nope, not in the slightest. To me there are more imprtant things to do in life than count.
  • Let me put it to you this way... There are 56 letters in your question , and three question marks. There are 9 letters in your screen-name , and no question marks. And there are 107 buttons on my keyboard , one of which features a question mark. Does that answer your question?
  • My daughter does this, INSTANTLY. I give her a word and she can instantly tell the number of letters. It's kinda freaky when you first see her do it, but cool at the same time! It appears to be connected with high intelligence. She reads at 8th grade level (plus) at age 7, skipped one grade and now does the letter counting when she's bored in class. She's very intelligent, great with reading/spelling/writing, excellent at math as well. It appears to be something that she only does to keep her mind occupied when there's nothing else going on. Check this website: http://www.latitudes.org/forums/ index.php?showtopic=373 You'll have to cut & paste the address in, and take out the space before "index", to get it to show. I couldn't post it any other way. Anyhow, it is only an issue if you do it to the exclusion of other things. This is still so new in our family that I have to discuss it with her pediatrician, but for the most part, what I've found online appears to be that it's a benign, interesting talent, but not an issue, again unless you do it to the exclusion of the rest of your life. Good luck!
  • Only on my obsessive/compulsive days. I usually check to see I locked the door about 6 times. I check to see if I have my keys when I go out all the time. I count the buses that pass me. heeeeeeeeeeellp
  • I did. And then I discovered Paxcil.
  • Telling people how many letters a certain word, phrase or name is made up of was my party trick between the ages of 2 and 12. It was old hat by 1986, fading by 1992 but defunct by 17 June 2008.
  • No. But. Sometimes when I get bored (or even not)... I scramble the letters of words and make other words. I don't do it in on purpose. I'm just strange like that.
  • Yes, I do it all the time! I count lines in the road, number of windows on buildings, the number of tiles on the floors...I even count the strokes it takes in words and numbers. (i.e., the word love is 6, if you just write it without the extra lines certain fonts put in it). My favorite number is 11 and sometimes I'll count things in different ways so it equals 11. Is something wrong with me?! My mom said she counts things too.
  • I usually count the syllables, not necessarily the letters. That would be kinda silly. :)
  • I count everything too! edges around everything, lines on the road, tiles on the floor and ceiling, my teeth w/ my tounge, how many steps I take, how many times I press my lips together... EVERYTHING!... OCD right!... MAKE IT STOP!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Okay, recently I discovered that my most wonderful daugher whom is a dancer at school and a good student can tell you how many letters there are in every word and in every sentence... she is like rain man. It is annoying to her but it fascinating to the rest of our family. She is a "normal" kid, but this new found ability is driving us insane....it is really like WOW
  • I count a lot of the time. I count the letters in a word and prefer for them to add up to an even number or groups of odd numbers. I also count the letters in sentences and like for them to be divisible by groups of 2 or 3, it gives me a feeling of "evening out" the phrase. If it doesn't add up I get somewhat frustrated and figure out different ways for it to add up right by sometimes adding "s" to words. I'm a total crackpot, huh?
