I preface my answer to note that it comes from a Christian perspective. Why should a Christian care , or respond? Because the Christian congregation is rooted in the Jews of the First Century. Did God punish the Jews. Yes, just like he said He would at 66 C.E. when he allowed the Romans under General Titus to desroy Jerusalem and the Temple. The wailing wall stands today as a silent witness to this judgement. This judgement was prophesied by Jesus Shortly before his death, Jesus prophesied that a terrible destruction was coming upon Jerusalem, capital of the unfaithful nation of Israel. (Matthew 23:37-24:2) Jesus said: "When you see Jerusalem surrounded by encamped armies, then know that the desolating of her has drawn near. Then let those in Judea begin fleeing to the mountains . . . because these are days for meting out justice, that all the things written may be fulfilled."-Luke 21:20-22. In the Book of Leviticus, we see blessings for obedience, maledictions for disobedience. Blessings for obedience will include bountiful harvests, peace, and security (26:3-13). Maledictions because of disobedience will include disease, defeat by enemies, famine, destruction of cities, desolation of land, and exile (26:14-45) The prophetic promise that Jehovah would remember them if they repented found its fulfillment in their return from Babylon in 537 B.C.E. (Lev. 26:29, 41-45; Lam. 2:20; 4:10; Ezra 1:1-6. There is nothing in this Bible Book that shows that God has "left the Jews" with no hope. This ties in nicely with a scripture that I considered with my wife this morning in our daily Bible reading. Down till today whenever Moses is read, a veil lies upon their hearts.-2 Cor. 3:15. Many Jews rejected Jesus and his teachings because they doggedly clung to the Mosaic Law. Jesus, a Jew himself, came to fulfill that law. There were, of course, exceptions. For example, after Jesus was resurrected, "a great crowd of priests began to be obedient to the faith." (Acts 6:7) Nevertheless, concerning the majority of the Jews, The Scriptures they so carefully searched should have helped them discern that Jesus was the Messiah. However, the Jews had their own ideas, and not even the miracle-working Son of God could persuade them otherwise. Again, this is from a Christian perspective, accepting that Jesus Christ is the Messiah.

Perryman answered the question YOU asked, if you want to ask a different question, then please do. No we, Christians, do not believe that God left the Jews. Like a loving, caring Father He punished them when they were bad. Only a noncaring, missed up father would leave his children because they missed up. God helped them MANY times; they sinned, He punished' they asked for forgiveness, He forgave. When I first started reading the Old Testament, I was wondering why He gave them sooooooo many chances-then it hit me-He has given me MANY chances too, and I still can't seem to learn not to sin. But He loves me SO MUCH that He sent His only Son to die a horrible death so that I could be forgiven each and everytime I sin-as long as I repent and ask for forgiveness. Hope this answers at least one of your questions. God Bless, <:))))<><

Christ stated that he left their house to them desolate. he ment the temple. God is no longer involved in religion, he is involved in relationships. a wiser question may be why did the jews leave him?

God never makes mistakes. God did this to Israel to show us (the Gentiles)what will happen to us spiritually in the next life if we reject Christ. God does not chastise for vindictive reasons, only for corrective and educational reasons. We commit sin because we were created sinners, its not exactly our fault. The Pope a few years ago implied that Judas was a very bad man.The Pope obviously dosent realize that without judas none of us would have had a hope in Hell.If God would have created Judas the Pope and created the Pope Judas nothing would have changed.
