If it has drum brakes in the rear you can access the backplate and remove the elongated rubber piece on the top side (12:00) and there is a mechanism that adjusts your brake shoes. You can take a screwdriver and spin the "gear (you will see it with a flashlight) and this with reduce the pressure of the shoes on the drum. If it has disc brakes, then you are going to gently slide a large flathead screwdriver into the side of the caliper where the caliper meets the brake pads. By gently using a prying motion (towards you and away), the caliper piston should recede and the caliper should loosen. If really tight, slide the screwdriver betwwen the rotor and the caliper and pry upwards forcing the caliper up and off.

Everywhere rotors are called brake discs, except North America, why is that, as they do not rotate?

You're reading Looking for a solution to free up my back brakes on a 2003 Dodge Neon. The right rear brakes are locked and I can't release the brake. Any ideas?
