When you see a question/answer with atrocious spelling or grammar, do you ever take a second to wonder if the person's first language is English?

Yes, more often now. Not everyone is just "illiterate". Some people have excuses.

I try not to get too bothered about it. As long as you can piece it together, I'm cool. Not everyone speaks English. But you can sometimes tell (through content) who is intelligent but has trouble with the language, and who is just illiterate.

the quality of spelling theses days is a joke. i cant believe that there are english lessons in schools and countless people simply spell the way it is spelt (phonetically for anyone who took time to learn decent english). im startihg to close web pages with appalling spelling without reading the text as its like driving over a rocky terrain instead of a smooth road. spell checkers would reboot the pc if run on some paragraphs.
