Are you looking for a way out of oral sex here?!! No, seriously, what you have read has some truth in it, but not the whole truth. If you are affected by oral herpes/cold sores (HSV1) it has been found over the last few yrs that it can be transmitted to the genital area via oral/vaginal contact and cause infection which is different to genital herpes (HSV2). This in turn can then be linked to later increasing the risk of cervical cancer. In this instance it is always good practice not to perform oral sex when a partner is actively infected with a cold sore, but if you were unaffected by the virus then oral sex could be performed without risk. So if either you or your wife never get cold sores then you have nothing to worry about. If you do suffer from cold sores then do not perform oral sex whilst they are present. Read this web page - it highlights the very real link between contracting HPV /genital warts/Chlamydia and then the risk of developing cervical cancer, and is a reliable source. http://www.cancerhelp.org.uk/help/default.asp?page=2755 and also this page which talks about the HPV1 link. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2005/03/050308100931.htm
