  • Launch some satellites into space so they can fire death beams that destroy anyone who commits murder.
  • I would hang them in the public square! Seriously
  • Simple. Kill everyone. No people, no murder.
  • If all intentional murderers were smited...that is somehow struck down themselves within a few days of their crime.
  • I suppose that getting rid of the 10 to 15 year appeal process and making justice swift would do a good deal. Past that, making the means of death particularly gruesome and public would convince all those witnessing it to avoid such a fate. How about dragging the murderer to the market square and there throwing him into a tank full of hungry piranhas?
  • Bring back public hangings. Public hangings serve more than one purpose: One is obviously as a deterent to those who might consider committing crimes which just got a man hung. Another is to very graphically remind people of the serious and horrible nature behind taking a person's life for a criminal act, so that it doesn't become a blindly accepted policy. A reminder of their responsibilities and duties as citizens condoning capital punishment. <EDIT> Let's not forget the obvious primary purpose of the hanging itself: as the ultimate penalty for person who commits the crime of murder.
  • Having to spend the rest of your life trying to teach simple arithmetic to someone with dyscalclia. Or trying to teach a dysgraphic to write perfect cursive. Or trying to teach a dyslexic how to spell every word in the english language backwards.
  • Put them to school, in the first grade with the kids and security to monitor(or they'll kill the kids)!!
  • An Eye for an Eye..no exception. You rape/torture/murder..you get to be raped, tortured and murdered. Simple, no? :)
  • How about crucifixion?http://www.youtube.com:80/watch?v=u88kf1J6Kv4
  • I believe that a murderer should be HUNG in the center of the town that the murder was comitted in ... Plain and simple.
  • Public Castration.
  • Nothing. If the death penalty hasn't stopped all murders, nothing will.
  • I think all murderers, rapists, pedophiles, and anyone that commits any capitol offense should have a beeper surgically implanted, that broadcasts what they are, at 10 second intervals, so everyone can hear, always.
  • Killing them is like a pardon. I think daily torture is better. For example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ahONxl-wzm4
  • Guess I am going to go against the grain and say that the idea that public hangings act as a deterrent is utter bullshit. We have been down that path and it simply did not work. When we watch Islamic extremist brutally behead people it does not deter us but makes us want revenge. Making them public would just increase our bloodthirst and make us even more desensitized to death and violence. The openness of our society is a contributing factor to our high murder rate. We have more incentive for crime than most places and because of our easy access to guns, we have better means than most. That alone means that murder will always be common. to determine how we could reduce murder we have to first look at why people murder to begin with. I'm sure there may be some exceptions, but most murders I can think of are broken down into the following categories: 1)Passion- Spouse walks in on spouse cheating and starts shooting. All variations of sudden emotional conflict like road rage are included. I can think of no legislation to stop that since they are unplanned. 2)Incidental Murders during commission of other crimes- Robbery, rape, burglary , etc gone wrong. With the exception of rape, crime is often a product of the disparity between rich and poor. The same greed that makes capitalism work in some ways, feeds the need for some to resort to crime. i also include residual crimes like gang warfare and drug deal related deaths in this category. This area actually has the greatest room for reduction. if you can reduce overall crime, you can reduce the number of murders that inadvertently happen during these crimes. 3)Premeditated- the "why?" for premeditated is often an offshoot of the other two taken up a sinister notch. Sometimes the "why?" is greed in the form of financial gain from insurance or inheritance. Sometimes it is a variation of passion (spouse knows of affair but plans murder instead of reaction). Other reasons include political, religious and other ideological reasons motivated acts like terrorism and honor killings. These are also difficult to put a dent in because the murderer is either highly convinced they won't get caught (a deterrent is pointless to those who truly feel they are not getting caught. Career criminals on the other hand expect to get caught eventually and rarely plan 1st degree murder). Ideological murders are the hardest to deter because the murderer already considers himself /herself a martyr of sorts. They often want the world to know they did it and why. No attempted deterrent will ever stop murder in any of those cases. Deterrents typically are most effective to people who would not do any of these things to begin with. I highly doubt one person who claimed that public hanging or some other variation is an actual murderer. Efforts to reduce crime will stop a lot more murders than brutal displays of more death.
  • torture....this is how it should be done. about 30 lashings all over the body with a leather whip then....... wait about week till the wounds just start to heal and repeat the whipping process. I reckon about 12 months of this should help change the criminals' mind about doing it again.
  • I would say a good thing to do is make the access of guns to the public very expensive and difficult, with it taking at least a year to legally own a gun.Very many murders are committed by law biding people that own guns. These murders should go through counceling in prison.
  • Locked away for LIFE... without luxuries like TV and games...ect I also think prisoners should be made to do community service to give back to the community.
  • well death doesn't work, and what more can you do.
  • The right to reproduce. As in, remove their sex organs. Try and steal something now.
  • People already risk being executed for murder and yet it goes on anyway. I don't think any punishment would stop it...the rage takes over and the action happens. But as I sit here thinking....if I knew my body parts would be chopped off painfully one at a time, I might think twice! Forget the lethal injection...that's too quick!
  • Locking up dangerous violent criminals for life, as long as they are considered dangerous or likely to re-offend. I don't believe it should be punishment based, but public safety based. All non-dangerous people and those guilty of victimless crimes should be set free.
  • I don't think any punishment is going to work
  • Probably nothing. Punishment is probably not a deterrent, and it probably never was meant to be. Also, murder happens for different reasons. Within the U.S., in some places murder happens for socio-economic reasons, and in other areas it happens because of affronts to the person's honor. The former can be quelled pretty easily with social policy, and latter is probably pretty difficult to do anything about.
  • The justice system seems to focus on long sentences. It seems that in prisons themselves, the worst of the worst live like kings, while the somewhat petty offenders fend for their lives. I think the problem is in prisons they allow prisoners to keep an identity, their sense of self, where their from, who they are, their allowed to be who they always were, which is the same person that got in trouble in the first place. I think they should start off with one year of absolute silence, alone, by themselves, in a dimly lit room. If someone has to attend them for medical reasons things should be kept to yes/no answers. If they try to harm themselves they can just be sedated, its done to patients in mental hospitals long term, so a year of being sedated should be safe. Unless they have a very strong sense of self, or at least tremendous inner strength, which often criminals don't have, a year of that kind of solitude will warp their minds, causing them to become somewhat dim witted. Once this is finished they can turn them over to the shrinks. They can start off with electro shock therapy, which has been known to cause someone to lose large chunks of memory, this should take care of any residual sense of identity they may have after coming out of confinement. Once who they were has been completely eliminated, they can be rebuilt and retaught on how to live, and what they will do within society when they are deemed fully reconditioned.
  • When you consider that murders have occurred throughout human history regardless of the consequences, I think it's safe to admit that NO PUNISHMENT WILL DETER MURDER (or crime in general).
  • I don't think there is any. In some places there's still the death penalty, and murders happen. I'm not sure what could be worse then death, unless we get into the idea of torture or something. Nothing will stop somebody who has the intent to murder.
  • I don't see a practical use for it in a prison, but I can see the appeal. After all more often than not the prisoners have more rights then the people they where locked up to protect. While the problem is evident in both the prisons and medical institutions, I feel they need to be addressed in a forum where real answers can be found. Having known people who have worked in prisons and people who need the aid of medication has opened my eyes to some harsh realities. The systems are in trouble. Danielczer Didn't fabricate anything. Google it. The one thing that did disturb me hear is the blatant miss-use of AB. MR_Natural. I have a question for you. Have you ever seen the movie "The Saw"? Someone thought that up. Just because something is well written does not mean they are mental. The use of the words "Pervert" or "Masturbate" are offensive and are against the "Terms of use" for AB. If they are the only things you can think of to reply then you should take a long walk. On a short pier.
  • long, slow, extreme, life altering torture to NOT DEATH. * would you kill some one if you knew it would get you a long life of daily torture especially genital torture/mutilation with the best of medical science making sure that you suffer every second of every day while not allowing you the release of death? * take gang bangers for example, sure they might accept the possibility of the death penalty for a murder, but what about spending the rest of their medically extended lives having their balls burned, electrocuted pin cushioned and eventually totally destroyed, being daily sodomized by huge mechanical devices, having sections of their bodies tortured off cooked and forced down their own throats. the death penalty doesn't work because their not afraid to die, but what if we could scare them with something worse then death?
  • This one is pretty easy..30 minutes locked in a room with the victims family...if you come out alive..life if prison..if not..oh well..:)
  • CHOP THERE BALLS OFF
  • OK lot of these answers are scarey but if thats the imagination of ABers woo hoo!! SO somewhere it says an eye for an eye , and so therefore, maybe if they torture the murderers the way they killed the person or persons they killed and give them back some of their own treatment maybe that would work or in the Old Testament they used to let the public stone the criminals to death or hang them on a cross for all the public to see and they were given no food just hung there for the vultures to wait for and began picking at them before they were even all the way dead. This does all sound very morbid, but today they get a nice warm cell with tv and group therapy and cable and game rooms and 3 square meals and they get donations from people/organizations so they can purchase items from prison commodities , hows that for punishment? !
  • I am a firm believer in the death penalty. Those that committ murder, should no longer breath.Having said that,I also believe it is not a panacea, but it will deter those that have committed murder from doing it again.
  • Death is the only way to stop re-offenders! Recidivism rates plummet when death is the only punishment. Also works for other crimes and petty theft.
  • For criminals!...I would say to just lock them up and throw away the key and for the rappers then I would just hang them from their testicals!...tied up to a tree.
  • There is no punishment that will stop murder and in most cases therapy does not work once they are out of a controlled environment. More testing needs to be done on the brain and what makes a criminal in the first place. Studies have been promising so far, but fruitless in application. Until that time, I'm afraid that prisons and jails are the only viable answer. We need some measure of safety.
  • All the research done to date suggests that the only thing that deters criminals is the risk of being caught & that the punishment has little to no impact. That being said I'm in favour of the Roman method of chucking them all in an arena with a bunch of weapons & hungry animals for a 'battle royale'!
  • I think that if you kill you should be killed your self and cut the crap of waiting and being in jail for years first.
  • Unfortunately homicide will always be an aspect of the human condition
