I don't think it's just Americans, I mean we do it and I'm British. But It doesn't mean we watch TV all the time! It's just the way it is

Do you often stand to watch TV? I don't, so therefore I put seating. When you go to a movie theatre, do you stand, or do you sit in seats? You sit in seats, what are those seats? Furniture.
