  • Rules for horizontal asymptotes: 1) If the degree of the numerator is equal to the degree of the denominator, divide the leading coefficents. 2) If the degree of the numerator is greater than the degree of the denominator there is no horizontal asymptote but there may be a slant asymptote. Slant asymptotes will only occur if the numerator is 1 power greater than the denominator. 3) If the degree of the numerator is less than the degree of the denominator, the horizontal asymptote is zero.
