  • I don't like the guy anyway but you guys wanted him
  • Not me. It's the only legitimate military action we've been involved in for almost a decade.
  • It's a concern, that's different than being "disturbed". While I have always been very much opposed the decision to invade Iraq, the fact is that once you break something, you have to buy it. The question of what to do to clean up the mess we made is not as simple as "pull everyone home"... we have a responsibility to try to minimize the damage all around. How to do that? Tough question, unfortunately. So I think we have to try -- once again -- to learn our freakin' lesson about military expeditions like this. The years of trying to extricate ourselves should help to cement the memory so it lasts a little longer this time.
  • While I didn't vote for him, I will say that it doesn't shock me, but it does concern me some. That's all I will say about it.
  • Not really, if this will shorten this conflict in the long run.
  • It does concern me, but I guess I am hoping, he will go in strong, do something and then end it.
  • As SanityClause says, it is the only military operation I see as being the right thing to do. That part of the World should have been our main concern right along. Iraq was a folly I will never forgive Dubya for. It allowed the Taliban time to re-group. Now they are threatening to take over Pakistan. We cannot allow that for any reason. 100 nuclear bombs in the hands of the Taliban should scare the shit out of all of you. Of course I imagine India will not allow it either. We are talking serious powder keg folks. Start paying attention.
  • i did not vote for him. but there is no point whatsoever to have troops in afghanistan. everything this man does pisses me off. and its only the beginning people!
  • I am disappointed for I thought he was interested in diplomacy not invading other countries. He should be taking all troops out of Afghanistan. What they do is their business.
  • Yeah, almost does. He's much more bad than good already. But hey, the Dems wanted him.
  • No. It's what we should have done in the first place. We had no business attacking Iraq.
  • In the debates with McCain, Obama clearly said he'd send troops into Afghanistan and make strikes against Pakistan. It disturbed me then and it disturbs me now, but I would still rather have him as president than McCain.
  • Why be disappointed? He STATED that this is what he was going to do before the election, and now it's here. We'll see how THAT goes, won't we? (I didn't vote for him, BTW.) And no... I never did think we should just "pull out" of Iraq OR Afghanistan. Keep the terrorists busy over there, and not elsewhere around the world. I never did think ANYONE would be able to extract us easily. I don't know where that fantasy came from.
  • I am certainly neither disturbed nor disappointed by his keeping this campaign promise. I am concerned, for certain. Invaders have tried to reshape that land from the ancient Chinese forward, and it has gotten the best of each who tried. It is a far more intractable area than Iraq. I hope he comes up with a good definition of success and an achievable exit strategy.
  • Yes it disturbs me. I think afghanistan will be Obama's vietnam.
  • Heck no - it's the only reasonable course of action.
  • Umm, it was to Afghanistan, not Pakistan. We aren't fighting a war in Pakistan (yet).
  • I think Mr. Obama ran on a platform of naivete. Mr. Obama has now been introduced to Mr. Reality.
