I found the best way to lose weight without counting calories is to just CUT BACK on what you currently eat. You can still have Mcdonalds and lose weight, i am living proof. Instead of buying a double cheeseburger value meal, try the kids meal single cheeseburger and tell them to give you water instead of the coke. I also cut out all the sugary drinks, coke iced tea and drank nothing but water. And of course you have to add some exercise :) I did cardio for 30 mins 5 x a week till i really started putting the lbs aside, then once i started to plateau, i exchanged 2 days of cardio with 2 days of weight resistance exerices, This really kicked my metabolism's butt into high gear!!! Soon I found I had to cut down on my exercise because even though i was eating like a hog (which i think only made my metab. go higher) i could not maintain my weight, i kept losing! After a year of quiting exercise period and returning to old eating habbits I only gained 10 lbs back of the 45 i lost, and honestly i needed those 10 lbs back, i started to look like a twig:) Losing weight isn't hard once you understand the proper way to do it.

I seem to have developed a pretty good weight loss lifestyle without really meaning to. The two boyfriends I've had that moved in with me (and therefore adapted to my diet) lost weight on it (one lost three stone in under six months), all the flatmates I've had who've let me control the kitchen (!) think it works well, and I've never had a problem with weight myself.
Its not some weird faddy diet plan its just based around the common sense food principles I grew up with. It includes plenty of really nice foods so shouldn't be too hard- I eat like this because I like it, not because I'm trying to stay slim- give it a try for a few months and see what happens. Unless you have a medical problem, it should work. (BTW, I'm vegetarian, but as long as you eat "real" meat and not fatty procesed or deep fried stuff, I see no reason why you can't add in a little meat or fish- grill it, rather than fry it)

    FOODS TO NEVER EAT:
    Supermarket "Ready Meals"
    White bread
    White pasta
Fast food (Mcdonalds, Burger King etc)
Processed frozen, canned or chilled food such as burgers or potato cakes (learn to make your own!)Frozen or canned veg in "pure" form (such as peas) is OK.
    Jelly sweets
Anything with non-natural or chemically derived ingredients. ( good guidelines: if you can't pronounce it, don't eat it, if you don't know what it is, don't eat it, if you wouldn't pick it up off the floor, don't eat it!)
    fizzy soft drinks
    Deep fried foods
    Shop bought cakes
    lager or beer
sugar (or anything coated in sugar)
    salt

FOODS TO ONLY EAT OCCASIONALLY (once a week max)
    Full fat dairy produce
    chocolate
    home made cakes
    caffeinated drinks
    "Natural" crisps (e.g. kettle chips)
    homemade baked potato wedges
takeaways such as pizza or Chinese
anything with alcohol in (OK, so sometimes I drink more than this, but generally alcohol is a bad plan if you want to lose weight!)

    THINGS TO EAT LOTS OF:
    Pulses
    Beans
Fresh fruit and veg (lots of different types)
    nuts and seeds
    Brown rice
    Quinoa
    Porridge
    Chamomile tea
    water

I tend to base most of my diet around stir fries, homemade soups and casseroles. I take in salads to work for lunch and have either muesli or porridge made with rice milk for breakfast. Try to make sure you get a good balance of carbs, protein and vitamins in each meal (so a 1 grain food or potatoes, 1 lot of meat, fish, nuts or pulses, and lots of veggies to complete the meal)
    Other guidelines:
-Don't keep junk food in the house. Chuck it out and it won't tempt you. If you have kids you'll be doing them a favour. Instead keep tasty healthy snacks like strawberries and grapes.
-Carry bags of unsalted nuts and boxes of raisins around in your bag or pockets in case you get hungry on the run
    - If you don't have time to cook in the week, prepare meals in advance (on a Sunday night maybe) and freeze them- effectively creating your own ready meals, but without the crap in the supermarket versions. There is never ever any valid excuse for eating a McDonalds. If you're fat and unhealthy and you eat in fast food joints, then frankly you kind of deserve it.

You can increase the effect with exercise. You don't have to go to the gym (unless you're insane. Why would anyone want to go to the gym?) just encorporate some excercis einto your life in general- walk or cycle to work instead of driving, do a bit of yoga before breakfast in the morning, stop by the swimming pool on the way home from work - whatever takes your fancy.

There's no magic formula to losing weight- just use a bit of common sense. Chips= bad, fruit and veg= good. How hard can it be?

Diet AND exercise ... even a LITTLE bit of exercise is effective but diet is about 80% of it. Have to just suck it up and eat no fat/sugar for a while ... including alchohol, that's almost all sugar :-)

People dont believe that weight loss is easy but it really is:

First, I cant stress this enough. Control your portions!! You can eat anything you want ANYTHING!! I swear! As long as you dont have more than one serving size.

2nd, exersise 3-4 times a week. I prefer cardio/dancing for 25 minutes 4x a week. Easy and FUN too! No need to go to a gym but they help also if you tend to need to be around ppl.

3rd, give up soda! Juice is OK in moderation, again serving size. Best to go with water most of the time!

4th, DONT starve yourself. Your body goes into a certain "shock" when it doesnt have the food it needs to function. So the next time you eat "normally" your body thinks "ok, we need to store this all as fat because we dont know when the next meal is coming". '

5th, get proper sleep each night and take a multivitamin every day too!

I lose 10-20 lbs a month just eating right and exersising this way. Its so cliche... but thats because it actually WORKS! lol

    From: http://www.faqs.org/faqs/misc-fitness/part1/

Don't be so concerned about how much you weigh. Instead be concerned about how much of that weight is FAT. You want the weight loss to be caused by losing FAT, not muscle or water.

To lose weight you need to burn more calories than you take in. To do it efficiently and to make sure it stays off the following three steps should be taken and should become part of your every day life.

    - Start an aerobic program. The activity should be something that you like doing, and look forward to doing. The activity doesn't need to be an aerobics class. Instead it could be walking, biking, inline/ice skating, dancing, etc. Anything that will elevate your HR and keep it around your Training Zone for at least 12 minutes. Remember the longer the better.

    - Modify what you eat. Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables, chicken, rice, potatoes, etc. Read the labels. 1g FAT = 9 calories (to make the math a little easier round that up to 10 calories) 1g protein or carbohydrates = 4 calories. Don't be fooled by "95% FAT free"! Look carefully at how many calories come from FAT. i.e. if something has 120 calories, which is pretty low, but it has 9 g FAT and 5 g protein and 5 g carbohydrates, almost 70% of that product is FAT. Try to eliminate the FAT that you eat. There is FAT in virtually everything so shooting for a 0% FAT diet will probably put you in the 10%-20%, just because not everything is FAT free, and you do need some FAT in your diet. Simply switching the obvious foods will make a big difference, such as, skim instead of whole milk, chicken instead of hamburger, bagels instead of croissants, etc. Also eating small meals more frequently during the day will raise your metabolism and keep you from getting that "I'M STARVING" feeling.

    - Resistance Training: To build muscle that will, in turn, help burn calories throughout the day. A simple weight program where you slowly add weight and perform basic exercises every other day, such as, Squats, Bench Press, Pull-downs, and Military Presses are enough for most people.

    General hints on Weight Loss:

    * Don't go on starvation diets. This will slow down your metabolism and may actually make you FATter.

    * Don't take products such as SlimFast. Drinking SlimFast may work in the beginning, but you need to modify your eating habits for a lifetime.

    * Don't buy anything that looks like a gimmick. The Thighmaster, Fat burning pills, some portable thing-a-ma-jig. Spend the money on good food and save it for your new clothes you'll need in a couple of months.

    * Get your BF% calculated and check it every other month.

    * Forget about the scale and buy a full length mirror. Standing in front of it nude will tell you much more than the scale will. "A picture is worth a thousand words"

    * Whatever you do HAVE FUN! If you start on some horrible (grapefruit) diet, a month later you're going to hate it and, more than likely, end up putting on more FAT.

I lost a lot of weight be following a strict diet and walking as fast as possible for 4 miles a day. My diet was just:

orange juice and vitamins for breakfast,
fruit like an apple, pear or fruit salad for morning snack,
salad or wrap for lunch and yogurt,
    crackers/cheese or a bagel/schmear for afternoon snack,
and fish or lean chicken for supper with tons of veggies like broccoli and carrots,
for night snack I would have popcorn or dried pineapple.

I eliminated soda and other sweets. I ate smaller portions and less rich heavy foods. Plus I watched how much condiments I was using. On weekends I usually fixed a turkey and cheese omlette for breakfast. and sweet potatoes to have with supper.

    I went from 150 to 117.

I took off 35 pounds about 5 years ago and kept it off going from 38 to 34 in pants and in shirts from xlarge to large and large to medium (depending on the shirt).
All I did was increase exercise and change the food that I was eating. I didn't decrease the food, I changed it. The magazine diets in the grocery store my take it off but you can't live like that. Don't give them alot of credibility.
Raman soups are nothing but flavored salt-read the label.
Have you noticed that the magazines with the weird diets in them are always at the checkout after you already have a cart full of stuff?
Fruits and vegitables as fresh as possible. Grill as much of your meat and chicken as you can. Minimal fried stuff. Electric indoor grills are available.
Reduce carbohydrates buy whole wheat breads, avoid the white stuff. Brown rice,
If you like to bake use whole wheat flour.
Notice: Nobody is taking my popcorn!
    Try to use sugar free.
If you must drink soda water try diet soda. I haven't had a regulation Coca Cola,Pepsi or Dr Pepper in a looooong time. We use Splenda. It cooks well.
    We use real live butter!
I try to avoid manufactured foods, stuff like pot pies and TV dinners The manufactured Lasagna etc.
You want nutrition not a bunch of fillers.
That stuff is OK occationally, but you don't want it an a regular basis. Try to cook at home using fresh.
Exercise. I found a course approximately 1 mile long (measuring it with the car odometer) I can't run because of a bad knee so I walked. 120 steps per minute, military cadence, inhaleing foursteps and exhaleing four steps, inhaleing foursteps exhaleing four steps. Suppliment this with anything else you feel up to. No strolling, you're wasting your time.
Get a bicycle, real, not indoor. You'll have to ride it about five miles for the same effect.
Eat big in the morning, so so at lunch, light after noon snack, and a light supper. Try and get some kind of exercise after eating try not to eat before you go to bed.
This is what worked for me and it may not work for you at all, so find out what works for you. Make your plan, confer w/ your doctor. Remember this is a life style change and there are other things in your life that may need to change also.
If I can do this "ANYBODY" can do it.

    Untie them.
    Loose, loosen = untie, unbind
    Lose = misplace, diminish

Combine a reduction in calories with an increase in activity for the best weight loss results, in consultation with your doctor.

    Good luck!

    Discipline and determination.

Don't deprive yourself. The easiest diet to do is to eat everything you like but all in MODERATION.
Eat only if you're hungry. Before you eat drink lots of lots of water. Chew your food slowly, take your time and chewing it even if you are really hungry. Trust me you will lose your appetite.

    AndreinLA's magical weight loss program!

I can tell you because for the last 2 months I have been consistently and gently losing weight while feeling more vital and comfortable.

My magic formula has 3 simple rules:

    1. I wait till I get hungry before I start eating.

    2. I eat with enjoyment (yes, it helps to get hungry first), at normal speed (vs stuffing my face as I used to) and stop when I feel almost full. Leaving stuff on my plate is OK. Being an European I can testify that serving sizes in the US are 1.5-2x larger than what is normal in Europe. No TV, no reading, just me and my food. This changed my relationship to what I put in my body.

    3. I eat food I really enjoy and crave, but in small quantity. I make sure I satisfy my craving for a certain taste without eating a whole portion of it. A date. 2-3 olives. A forkful of smoked salmon. The Chinese say a person must experience all 5 tastes with a meal to be satisfied. I say listen to your body and satisfy its cravings for quality, as close as you can, without falling into the trap of quantity.

Also, I am phasing out refined sugars, replacing it with honey/maple syrup for tea, dates for sweets. I don't consume fast food/soda (since I saw Supersize me!), but satisfy the occasional craving for a quality hamburget or hot dog.

I am happier and more connected to what I eat, spend less for food and enjoy it more. No torture, no agony.

So here it is, free of charge -- AndreinLA's magical weight loss program!

    Enjoy.

As well as a healthy balanced diet, and a cardio program, add a weightlifting program to your exercise plan. Building muscle helps burn fat and you will more effectively get fit and lost fat by adding weightlifting to your regime.

Overhall your diet and start exercising. Don't over-do your diet however, a healthy balanced diet will be much more beneficial in the long run. Eat whole grains, fruits, veggies, and cut out the super-fatty stuff. Most importantly, don't deprive yourself of food you love, it'll only lead you to eventually fall off your diet and gain the weight back. Try to make healthier choices with the foods you love. Like chips? Lays offers a lot of thier chips in a baked variety. Pizza? Get a pizza once or twice a month, but add healthier toppings. As with everything moderation is also key. Don't over-exercise, don't under-eat, don't over-eat healthy stuff the calories still add up. Learn to read and understand nutrition facts, Special K items tout that they're healthy, but a glance at the nutrition facts show that they still have a decent amount of sugar in them. You need to decide if that much sugar, or that much fat, etc. is OK for the diet you've chosen. Try to replace juices, milk, cokes, with as much water as you can stand. If you begin to conciously make healthier choices, eventually they'll b/c second nature, then you've won the battle.

Don't eat any potatoe's, pasta, bread etc. My doctor wanted me to lose 30 lbs. I am 5'11" and weighed 220 lbs. I always was 190 lbs. most of my adult life and felt very good at that weight. My doctor recommended this diet for me.
When I became ill with a rare nerve disease I gained weight. Stick with this for 6 days a week and on the 7th day, eat whatever you want to.
Eat all the meat and veggies that you desire during the week.
It worked Great for me, took about 3-4 months before I was down to 190, feel good now, except for my medical problems. Give it a try, it was the only diet that I could stick with, without feeling hungry all the time.
    Good Luck..

Exercise your arm muscles. Have the strength to push yourself away from the table.

Eat slowly. Give your body a chance to tell you when you're actually full.

Pay attention to the 'full' signal and don't keep eating, just because it's there. Forget the lesson your parents taught you. It really isn't necessary or even 'good' to 'finish your plate'.

Drink fluids while you eat to help fill the void and fill up faster.

Exercise, or at least stay active.

Watch your fat and calorie intake. Just because a snack says it's only 100 calories doesn't mean that it's NOT 50% FAT.

Don't succumb to the 'munchie' call. Don't snack! If you're not hungry, don't eat. If you must eat, eat something that you have to work for, such as sunflower seeds in the shell. If you must have something sweet, eat a piece of fruit or try a bowl of cereal as a treat. I highly recommend Cocoa Puffs or Cap'n Crunch. :)

Limit your sugar intake. Switch to diet soft drinks. Better yet, drink water. If water doesn't satisfy, get some of the sugar free mixes for your water to flavor it.

Get enough good fiber in your diet to both fill you up and keep you regular.

Soda was the number one thing to drop like Perryman said. What I do is completely stop all junk/snack foods... No cookies, no donuts, no potato chips, etc. Most of what I cook is fresh(not out of a box or bag) and that has helped me drop about 20 pounds! Well..not just diet alone...also have to walk/jog/run, do some excersises on the floor while watching tv or something.

    Exercise.

No matter what diet you go on, you must include a routine of exercise if you wish to keep the weight off.
Yes, you much of course, watch what you eat.
The first thing to drop is soda, which is simply sweetened corn syrup.
If you can not drop the soda, at least switch to diet soda.
Drink water instead of the sugary drinks.

The best way to lose weight is go on a hunger strike. Drink all the water you can, it fills you up. Then excercise. Or if this doesn't work try his website, 18in4.net
