I dropped a class in college and had to pick up one extra credit. I chose welding. It was an art class. Actually was pretty cool. Went to an old historic campus building to do the work. It was the old basketball gym. We had to make a metal sculpture. I made a star with rainbow arcs coming out of it. No clue what I was thinking, but it looked pretty good.

My Dad was a welder for many years. They use a machine that generates sparks with electricity and melts small metal pieces into glue like stuff to patch (weld) larger metal pieces together. They also use torches to melt the ends of pipes so they can "weld" them together. They wear special protective gear, such as gloves, coveralls, heavy duty boots, masks, googles, and hats.
