  • i dont read only if its for like a project or something
  • I read some of Phyllis Whitney's books years ago. I liked them at the time, but don't know if I would now. Mary Stewart and Phyllis Whitney were both very popular romantic suspense/American gothic type of books. I remember 'Winter People', 'Spindrift' and 'Listen for the Whisperer'. I took a peek at the list and read others, but these are the three titles I remember most. hmmmm.. maybe I should pick one of these up again just out of curiosity!
  • Read Phyllis Whitney when I was young and liked her then. I like Leslie Meier series now.....
  • It depends on what you like. These writers are very different from one another. Evanovich writes light, fluffy often hilarious fun mystery novels. Dorothy Sayers was an academic type and she wrote (about 70 or 80 years ago) about an aristocrat named Lord Peter Wimsey. PD James has a very different kind of convoluted style. Ruth Rendell is a very good writer but her prose style sometimes strikes me as cold. But A Judgement in Stone by Rendell is quite quite good. So I'd have to ask you- what do you like? Cozies? (like Miss Marple books, Murder she wrote, various mysteries with knitting, cleaning, catering, fashionista etc etc type protagonists) Hardboiled? Procedural? English type or American? There are many types of mysteries. I've seen insane private eyes, evil private eyes, cutesie type mystery solvers, soccer mom protagonists, humorous mysteries, mysteries with a lot of romance in them, historical mysteries, police procedurals, hard boiled, "gothic" type... I live in Seattle. It has a mystery book store. If your city has such a bookstore, you should definitely go and chat up the staff. If not, go to a good sized independently owned bookstore (new or used, makes no difference) where the staff and/or owners are inclined to chat and make recommendations. Lots of fun reading ahead for you!!!
