If i was getting married & asked you to stand in wedding & I told you that I would get back to you on cost of gown, then 2 wks later I call you & tell you to go to bridal shop to get measured & bring deposit of $120.00 with, would you find this abrupt?

A bit. But I'd keep my peace. Cause most bride to be's are just this side of Psychotic from stress during the endless details of their wedding.

I would indeed find it abrupt. I would also probably thank the bride, but tell her I cannot afford that and to get someone else to stand with her. The weddings in my family, the bride helps pay for the dresses or she tells them the colors and what length, and lets them get their own, to suit. I find it rude and condescending for anyone to basically say, "I want you in my wedding, it's going to cost you more than a hundred dollars. Oh, and you will jump when I say jump, with no input or advance notice on when we will be getting measured. Yes, I know I said I'd get with you on the cost, but I made the decision, and you are stuck paying it."
