Other sites have tried programs like this. Usually the amount of money received by a "contributer" is a portion of the advertising dollars generated by views of their content. So no, youtube will not go broke, but i wouldn't bank on making real money as an uploader.. i think it's more marketing than anything else.

I think there would end up being even more stupid videos than there must already be on there. It isn't that it is a bad idea on their part, since the money would be a portion of advertising revenues based on the number of views of each video, I don't think they will go broke, and if it increases traffic then I would expect advertising sales to increase proportionally too, but I don't think youtube is exactly struggling for video contributions from what I have seen so I wonder why they feel the need to bother with this scheme.
