No one should be pressured to forgive any thing. If he wants to forgive on his own, fine. Not even for some one who is "mentally unstable".

Who is pressuring this child? Where are his parents? No one should be pressured into doing anything with someone who molested him. It does not matter if the family member is unstable or not. Mentally ill people should be responsible for their own recovery. Also, being mentally ill does not give anyone the right to molest a child. Any form of pressure, on the child, to make amends is just more abuse. It is good for some people to forgive. For others, they may never want to associate with the attacker again, even if s/he is a family member. If the child wants to approach such a family member to forgive, then that is his decision and his only. Anyone pressuring him, in any way, needs to stop. If pressuring is going on, then it needs to be reported just like the molestation hopefully was.
