I use mechanical (lead holder)pencils. #2's are too hard for some types of drawings. I switch leads according to the type of drafting I'm working on. I mostly like F type leads. If not a formal draft I use .5 mm mechanical pencils (the kind that don't need sharpening).

Mechanical - there is something about the chemicals in the wood of wooden pencils that makes my fingers itch, even through the paint. The exception is when I mark woodworking projects, then I use the standard wooden carpenter pencil, which is OK because of only brief contact with the pencil at infrequent intervals. If I have a large project to mark out, I switch to a fine-tipped felt marker.

Mechanical pencil in 0.5 or 0.7mm I use the softest lead so I don't tear up the paper. 4B or something. That is if I'm doing something technical, for general notes and serious writting that I want to appear "crisp" a black fine point pen or medium blue pen.

mechanical pencils are much better. The point of a regular pencil gets dull immediatly, because it's tapered.

Ideally, i would prefer a mechanical writer. In other words, a machine that writes for me so i don't even have to do THAT.

I love mechanical pencils, but when I write with a pencil, I do so with such intensity, that I break them. I then need a number 2.

Mechanical because they are more reliable in not needing to be sharpened all the time

I use whatever is available for me to use. I prefer #2s though, the lead on mechanical pencils breaks too easily.

I like #2 pencils because mechanical pencils drive me crazy (I go through led a lot and you never know when you're going to run out)

I do like using my art pencils though because the 2H are really soft and don't smudge. They're expensive though so I really shouldn't use them as much as I do.

#2 wooden pencil. Only high quality. Dixon Ticonderogo is a favorite. A good, quality wooden pencil is a wonderful thing, as are electric sharpeners. I use an X-ACTO.
