How can I find out the different strain of herpes, I would like to know if myself and a future girlfriend have the same strain before having sex, plus when I was diagnosed the doctor never said anything about what kind just that I have it, why is that?

They are two main types, HSV-1 and HSV-2. HSV-1 is commonly associated with herpes outbreaks on the face known as cold sores, whereas HSV-2 is more often associated with genital herpes. However due to oral sex, it is becoming more common to have HSV-1 on the genitals. The best person to talk to is a sexual health nurse or a doctor. -
