  • Pool in the US is an endangered species. The Billard has a more open season. You can't trap tourist in the winter months, their mating season, but it is legal during the summer.
  • There are many great places in the USA. I always recommend San Francisco and New York City to people. These are somewhat touristy places, but it is very easy to avoid tourist traps. I recommend walking around. Don't do a tour, don't have anything in mind. Make a dinner reservation (purchase a Zagat guide for suggestions) and then plan to be there by dinner. In New York City, I'd start out in Central Park and see where you end up. In San Francisco, I would start in Union Square or anywhere, really. You can easily use Bart and Muni to get around. From downtown, it is a nice walk to Chinatown or Washington Square Park (surrounded by excellent cafes). If you want a less urban environment, I'm not the right person to answer this. For me, cities have everything I need.
  • Houston. On West Richmond there are some excellent Country Western clubs that have pool tables as well. As soon as you start talking and they hear your English accent you will have no trouble making friends. Southwest Houston is packed with great places to go. And the Galleria is there if you want to go shopping.
  • If you want an "Authentic" American experience, Boston might be a good town to visit, it's got alot of American history, and it's not too much of a tourist trap if you know what kind of travel packages to steer clear of. Oregon is a very nice vacation state too, although alot of it is really closer in culture to Canada that America. The mid-West is a nice place to visit, they don't have too big of a foreign tourist industry there, so you're more likely to get an authentic experience, Wyoming and Minnasota are good, but cold, so Idaho is probably a good middle-of-the-road choice.
  • I vote for Dallas, Texas. It's a nice place and the people seem very pleasant. Don't let the fact that President Kennedy got shot there scare you off.
