  • I've always been a big fan of professional skateboarders like Tony Hawk, Steve Caballero, Mullen (you know the old school) and reading about their lifes I learned that all of them has been always self-learners that base their progress on creativity and group practice (you know hanging around with other skaters and challenge themselves to new more exciting tricks). These days are less romantic and much more money-driven, so many pros have managers that one way or another direct their careers, but they aren't actually coaches or instructors. The new skate stars, as they always say on interviews, learn from watching the masters, and in some cases a pro can act as a "couch" but they are more like friends that skate along with you giving some advice. So in short, to be a great skateboarder you need a board, wheels and lots of guts and creativity, together with hours and hours of practice a week. If you can add to this mixture an experienced friend I'm sure you can save some time on the learning curve. Oh, and please dont forget the knee and elbow pads along with a helmet.
  • The simple answer is NO. The only things that you need to become a seccsessful skateboarder is a skateboard and a helmet. All you have to do is practice. For a begginer, first find the stance that is the most comfortable for you (goofy or regular) then slowly (with your helmet on) try to push off with your rear foot to create a forward motion. The sterring on a skateboard is simple, just lean the way that you want to go. Besides the only way that you can become as good as Tony Hawk or other professionals, is PRACTICE!
  • no you can become great on your own, its not that hard just practice and pluss teaching yourself is way fun but frustraing just get some skateboarder friends to give you some pointers.
  • Sports evolve. At first, it is just natural talent that prevails. As the scoring and techniques are refined, I think coaching can provide some advatages. Coaching is mostly encouragement and acciountability. It never hurts, but if you can provide all of that for yourself, you can become great.
  • absolutely not.... almost everybody teaches themsleves.... ive been skating for 4 years and i can do almost every thing i can do regular switch with tricks in my bag like hardflip, inward heel, double flip, backside heels, laser flips, and a bunch of other nifty tricks....
  • Not exartly .i have seen guys on streets seeking no professional help and skate boarding like any thing. It depends upon your zeal to play the game. But in some cases experts are needed to avoid some fatal accident risks.
  • You have to have the drive and love to just skateboard.
