  • I do not know much about being an Astronomer (space scientist) but I would say the very first step would be to find out what your son's IQ is. I think it would have to be very high to be able to do all of the study that is required. Is he good at physics, mathematics, etc?
  • I assume that your son is good in maths and science, and also proactively reads up about the developments in the field of astronomy. I understand that India has very limited scope in providing amateurs in astronomy with hands-on training. I would suggest you enroll him with a good astronomical club, where he will get to know about telescopes and stargazing etc. Alternatively, if you have a good budget, then you can also enroll him for Space Camp India at http://spacecampindia.com/index.htm Here your son will get to perform realistic astronaut training activities in a simulated environment. Also, he can interact with veteran astronauts and NASA representatives. It's the best way to understand the demands of the field as well as judge whether your son has the right aptitude to be an astronomer. Check out the site and decide!
