It's a vegetable. Here in NZ we call them yams for some bizarre reason.
-
It's a regional specialty, so yes it is common. Okra is very common in the US South, for instance, but almost unknown in Norway.
-
I've heard of it, but I do not know what it is.
-
I know what it is :)
-
I like okra but i don't get it often here in the UK I also know it as Ladies Fingers strangely:)
-
We eat it all the time where I live, in fact I like it so much I grew it in my garden last summer.
-
well im 27. and what the hell is okra??? a spice?
-
I think it might depend on where you live, or grew up. I never ate okra until I was an adult and living in Louisiana. I don't think it is much of a tradition in the northern states.
-
Oh yes. It is common in the South of the US but unknown or known in name only in many other places including the North of the US.
-
Only if you live North of the Mason-Dixon line.
-
I don't like it, but I know what it is....I think it's just not very popular.
-
I think it depends on where you are from. Most Northerners don't know what it is. I think it's more popular in the south.

Okra is a wonderful, magic plant that will cure all your problems. Here's how you prepare it: 1. Slice okra into thin discs 2. Fry in cornmeal on the stove 3. Place in a basket and enjoy! As you can guess, I'm a huge fan of okra, so I my heart goes out to anyone who doesn't know what it is! But it does seem to be more common in the South and in other more agricultural reasons, so I could excuse someone who didn't grow up in a rural area if they don't know what it is.

Okra is a world wide vegetable, isn't it? Origin is from India. It is popular in Japan too.

I think eating Okra must be like eating snot. We had it all the time when I was growning up....yuck!
