THERE IS A BELT AND PUMP SYSTEM DID THIS JUST HAPPEN OR HAS THERE BEEN A SQUEELING SOUND FOR AWHILE? IF IT JUST HAPPENED IT IS MOST LIKELY THE PUMP I WOULD CALL AROUND ON A REPAIR COST BECAUSE THIS COULD BE TOTALLY DIFFERENT ON PRICING FROM SHOP TO SHOP IF ITS JUST A BELT I HAD MINE DONE FOR 50 BUCKS

It's not hard to fix but it could be expensive. If the car's drivable it wouldn't hurt to get a couple of bids. Avoid dealerships. If you need help finding a good indenpendent shop in your area let me know and I'll steer you to a site.

Totally depends on year, make and model.

There is a pump, a belt,a rack and pinion assy, p/s lines, and an electronic control valve. First make sure the valve electrical connector is plugged in. If the system is not making any noise, does not have any leaks, and the fluid is clean and full, I would really be suspecting the contol valve, then the pump. You have one serpentine belt for everything.
