How should a supervisor handle a subordinate who's having an affair with the supervisor's boss?

    The only feasible thing to do is simply ignore it. There's really nothing you can do without fear of retaliation such as getting fired. You may wish to discuss this w/your fellow co-workers and see what their advice is.

    Good luck! Incidentally, I agree with you that that's disgusting that your subordinate is having an affair with your boss. Some people clearly lack morals.

    I am curious why you feel it has to be "handled". There are a number of reasons that would be negative for the supervisor if they got involved in a relationship issue that may not be any of their business. If the relationship is causing some strain between the supervisor and their boss, I would suggest discussing only the business aspects of what is being affected, and keep personal opinions out of it. It may be difficult, but the conversation is a necessary step. The supervisor can and should document in detail the discussion and any outcomes from it, in the event that the issue becomes more problematic in the future.

    If it's done outside of the workplace, the onlu legal actions possible are through a PI hired outside of work and cannot be used in the work fiels, unless the employee signed a clause agains't that sort of thing which only an idiot would sign, the supervisor's boss should be allowed to date who ever he/She wants as much as any other employee as long as it's mutually consentent.
